2019-2021 Partnership to Focus on Local Manufacturing Workforce
The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (Manex), a 24-year-old non-profit focused on growing manufacturing and jobs in Northern California, has received its most recent Employment Training Panel (ETP) training contract from the State of California.
ETP is a California agency founded in 1983 as a cooperative business-labor program designed to improve the State’s economic competitiveness through state-funded employee training assistance. To date, the ETP program has allocated over $1 billion in funding for training to 55,000 businesses for 600,000 employees.
ETP funds are used to offset the cost of providing training to employees, significantly reducing manufacturers out of pocket costs in developing their business and workforce. ETP differs from other workforce development organizations whose emphasis is on pre-employment training. ETP fulfills its mission by reimbursing the cost of employer-driven training for incumbent workers and funding the type of training needed by unemployed workers to re-enter the workforce. Overall, the ETP program helps to ensure that California businesses will have the skilled workers they need to remain competitive.
Since 1998, Manex has had its own unique consortia agreement with the California ETP that allows manufacturers immediate and simplified access to ETP funding to train their employees. Manex works with owners and officers to identify training needs and resources to support both short- and long-term training projects. Outcomes affect both the individual and the manufacturing firm in their ability to grow and compete in a global environment.
“Manufacturing is entering its fourth industrial revolution and it will change more in the next five years than it has the last 50,” said Gene Russell, CEO of Manex. “The importance of ETP funded training cannot be overstated in this dynamic environment.”
